Program Info:

US Corporate Immigration for Dummies

This interactive session will introduce basic corporate immigration principals and cover the relevant work visas and options available to companies, large and small. We will focus on the most widely utilized work visas and options for U.S. employees, namely, extensive coverage of L-1 and H-1B visa options, OPT/CPT options for hiring foreign students in the U.S., and TN, E- 1/2, and J-1 visa options. Participants will be guided through work green card options that are applicable to their employees and hear a discussion of recent events in corporate immigration that may impact their company. This session is perfect for HR professionals who have little to no experience with U.S. immigration issues, and are suddenly tasked with some level of immigration responsibility within their organization, or those who already maintain immigration information and want to hone their knowledge.

The program is designed for HR professionals who may be new to dealing with US corporate immigration, or who want to get a basic and next level, up-to date understanding of the basic professional work visas and issues that are most utilized by companies of all sizes.  The session goes through each visa methodically and provides time for questions as the program progresses within each topic.
Learning Objectives
HR professional skill sets are constantly being expanded. HR professionals are more well-rounded and suited for better HR roles when they have knowledge in a variety of HR and HR related fields.  US Corporate Immigration is such a field of growing importance and HR professionals who are versed in (at least) the basics of US corporate immigration are extremely valuable and sought after by large corporations with a strong global presence or those that hire foreign graduates in the US with niche and highly-sought after skills.

Participants will gain:
1) An understanding of basic terms, travel and strategy regarding foreign professional workers in the US, or needed to transfer to work in the US
2) Knowledge about professional corporate work visa categories that can otherwise be confusing or complicated without the proper background provided at a basic level
3) A fact-enriched presentation which will give participants a "cheat-sheet" into navigating work visa categories without the need for complicated legal statute cites or case law
